Survey the growth and Diet of Children in Some Islands Korea

Abstract
In order to survey the growth and Diet of children in some islands, I made surveyers visit HaChung Myun, Ko-Che Island in July, 1971. The subjects of surveyers were 150 children under age of 6. They used as survey aids questionnaire and devices for measuring height, weight, head and chest circumference. The results of the survey are as follows:
1. The average measurement of the subjects were far below the Korean standard measurement. 2. About 99% of delivery took place at home:77% of those who assist delivery are relatives or
neighbours. Only 9.2% depended on medical person for delivery. 3. Only 72% of the subjects registered birth.
4. 82.8% of the children under age of 2 depended mother¢¥s milk for diet. In case of children over age of 2.67% depended rice and vegetable for diet.
Judging from these results of survey, the growth rate of children in some islands is below the standard growth rate of average inland children which does not reach that of the world. In order to encourage the growth and healthy condition of children in these islands, it is urgently required that mothers who are responsible for childrens growth be educated as to nourishmend and bringingup of children.
